An honorary Professor of AcSIR and J. C. Bose National Fellow (SERB, Govt. India) Ajayaghosh works at the CSIR-NIIST in Thiruvananthapuram, India. He graduated from Calicut University with a master's and a doctorate in chemistry. His research interests pertains to organic materials, such as fluorescent materials, photo-responsive materials, organogels, molecular probes, covalent organic frameworks, etc. He introduced a new class of soft materials called pi-gels, which is widely recognised by the scientific community. His research findings and publications are highly valued and well cited. His study on fluorescent molecular assemblies has the potential to be used to create security markers for currency, and other documentsand also for diagnostic purposes.

Our research group specializes in organic functional materials, mainly made from organic pi-systems with enormous potential for photonic and electronic applications. Many of these materials fluorescent stimuli responsive materials having application in light harvesting, as security labels, sensors etc.
